Adventures in Alkaline

The quest for total health (physical ans spiritual) through alkalinity

ACES. Acid and Alkaline. You’re a winner

By Christy Charles

Wow. I am blown away. I am totaly totally swept off my feet and it feels like love. I tell you if I said I loved Barody of Alkalize or Die put it down as mere infatuation. What I am feeling now, this deep overwhelming feeling of humility,’ let me kneel at thy feet in gratitude, let me kiss you, let me love you, let me wish erternal happines follows you’, is for the man Christopher Vassey of The Acid Alkaline Diet for Optimum health. Thank you very much Robert Young and Shirley Redford Young of The Ph Miracle, thank you very much Mr Barody you’re wonderful. Ladies and Gentlemen hands together for the man who explains the path to health through a complete and total understanding of the principle of alkalinity and acidity on all their levels.

The book was dropped in my mail box this morning.
I picked it up at 2pm thinking I’ll just browse through the pages and read it later. Ah no it didn’t happen like that at all. Vasey and I dug out the foundations, then we lay the pipes, started on the walls. We had to send home some builders who were doing the job all wrong, had the aim in sight they, but were just geting it all wrong. This sure aint about starving yourself or living like a cow. Any way Vassey and I got the house built tonight. At Page 202 I stop and I figure I have to share this with you. While its hot in my mind.

Here’s what I got. First you got to have a diet which is sustaining you on a daily basis. Giving you what you need to have a productive day. No snails here please. And to do that you must register mildly alkaline. He is not saying you’ve got to eat only alklaine forming foods. Nor is he saying that you’ve got to tip the plate over on the alkaline side to achieve this. He’s saying you need your proteins, you need your raw foods, you need your enzymes, you need your probiotics and antioxidents. But above all you’ve got to read slightly alkaline.

On a daily operational level you’ve got to have a surplus of alkaline elements to neutralise your acid intake and render your daily consumption balance just slightly alkaline. And he shows you how to do that. What I loved espcially was the constant reference to persons who don’t digest acid foods. Because that causes a debate. Hey fruits are higly alkalizing. Pineapplles, lemons, oranges… but hey hold on a second. There are a group of persons out there (I didn’t know that) whose bodies just can’t handle weak acids, found in fruits and whey and soft cheeses. And those individuals upon the intake of those weak acids have the oposite reactions in their body. These acids are normally expelled through breathing and because their bodies can’t expell them, what should be a lovely alkalizing food is rendered acidic for them.

He shows how to test whether you’re one of those unfortunate. Or simple recall will suffice. Ever tried a grape cure, ate an abundance of fruit? Was your body’s responce to it favourable? Well I’m home free on that count but unfortunately there are some people for whom weak acids pose a big problem and there lies the complication of the acod alkline diet. One man’s food may well be anothers poison.

But all’s not lost for those poor souls. Can you imagine not pigging out in mango season? Or water melon. Soft acids are not mandatory for health and besides reactions to them are not black or white. In degrees. Some can tolerate more and some less. Vassey urges us to use our commonsence and let our own personal experience be our guides. There was a wonderful line he wrote about not getting too hung up on the theory. Man it’s got to work for you. A food can not be said to be good till it hits your intestines. And mine and your are different.

Any way for the rest of us who don’t have problems with soft acids alkalizing day to day is a breeze. Anything dark green leafy, anything coloured (think of peppers, omit tomatoes), just make sure you eat enough that the acid portions on your plate can be neutralised and the balance is slightly alkaline. You’ll know by your pee. And oh I’ts not the first one that counts in the morning its the second urination. The first should under proper conditions be acidic. A sign that your kidneys are working to filter the acids of the previous day. If it’s not and your uine reads neutral on first mornings pee it is that you are too acid and that your elimination processes it not working well enough to flush them out.

The later urine test should read between 7 and 7.5. That’s good. If its above that boy you’re either a vegetarian and you are consuming lots more alkaline minerals than your body actually requires not bad in itself per se (yet he suggests that vegetarians should ensure that they get enough protein), or you’ve got a glandular problem or funny enough you’re really too purple on the paper (if its not because you’re consuming too much alkaline minerals or have a glandular malfunction) it is certain that you’re too acidic. What’s happening is that the body is sending out lots of alkaline minerals in attempt to neutralisze the acid invasion and that registers in the urine as alkaline. No, its as bad as if your urine had simply registered acidic in the first place.

So what do we do? We rebalance, eat more alkaline forming foods (be careful if you react to soft acids) and we’re home free. Well sort of….. This was the tip of the ice berg. Sorry to tell you the bad news. You and I got lots and lots of stored acid wasted in out tissues. You see. The body can’t risk changing the Ph of the bood. WHy you ask? Death. So what it does is wrap up those acids in mucous and send them to the tissues where they’re out of circulation. Now condsidering you haven’”t been eating in a particlularly alkalzing manner for years. Well our lovely bodies have been showelling the dirt under the carpet for just as long. Good grief. What to do now? Ahha. Problem is the kidneys can only flush out so much acid a day, typically less than you consume and beside man you can’t just dump those old acids back into the blood. What you want to do is get them out of the tissues to reach the skin or kidneys to be passed out. But they’ve got to go through the blood first. Now what’s the problem with that? Well the blood works within a very narrow Ph range. It can’t withstand fluctuations of Ph levels like the tissues. So no matter how much alkaline forming foods you consume in the hope of neutralisng those imbedded toxins, the blood just aint gonna run the risk of poisoning you by taking all that concentrated mass of acids which have accummated into the deep tissues. No siree. Forget it!

So waht’s a girl to do? The blood is only going to grudingly accept a bit of acid waste and even if you had a matching amount of alkalines ready to neutralise this it would take you forever before its all come out of your tissues. I’m not that patient. Keannu Reaves is not going to wait that long for me to get into shape. And man I’d be eating copious amonts of vegetables all day long! I have other things to do like… But mother nature is forgiving. Vasey says “The change in diet is primarily meant to deal with the body’s current need for alkaline substances, not for the disposal of the previous accumulations of acids. It is therfore imperative to provide alkaline substances in adition to thoise the body is injesting for food. This is possible with alkaline supplements, preparations containing alkaline minerals - calcium potasium, magnesium and so forth in a form that is easily assimilated in the body….. Thanks to supplements these painful symptoms of excess acids in the body diminsh, often in a remarkable short period.” Someone hold me up. There is hope.

He analyses 12 supplements and one should get the book because there are some which may be counter indicated - like if you can’t take too much salt, or if you are allergic to milk sugar, or simply if you don’t like the taste. Because well if you’re going to be injesting this for days on end it would be nice if the taste were agreeable, no? He lists Alkabase, Alkala (and no I’ve never heard of those things before. Thought I could do it throuh consuming more veges… ha ha ah). Basin, Basinette, Equilibre -Vital, Erbasit, Flughe, (yes Vasy is Swizz), Mega base, Nimbasit, Rebasit (are you still there? I am not making this up I swear), Sanarter Basic and Somona. He says generally alkaline supplements are well tolerated. That’s nice to know. And the back of the book has an appendix where one can get those Alkaline supplements. From Mars most likely.

He’ll tell you about dosage, length of treatment which is usually somewhere between 6months and two years and I am getting very tired of typing. It’s 10PM here. Have been reading since 2 PM. He says “This may seem like a long time, but it is quite short when you consider that the body was building up these acid wastes deposits for a good numer of years before any health problems appeared.”

“At the end of an alkaline supplementation treatment the body is thoroughly cleansed of acid wastes. This is reflected by the long forgotten state of vitality and wel being”

Well I’ll be telling you when I get there. In fact you’ll be seeing me on Tv as the stay at home mom turned singer songwriter. Gyrating up there with non-stop energy, men falling at her feet, fans screaming…. Hey Christy hey Christy. And I’ll say baby its all about Alkalinity. Ask Vassy. I suppose alkalizing does do something for clarity of dreams….

So I’ll leave you now but I forgot to say that Vassey didn’t let me leave till I had painted the house. Man I was plain old ready to move in. Nah he stoped me and told me about green foods, the grasses. I showed him my green star juicer and the wheat grass roots in the compost heap and he nodded and added that I should check out Kamut too and barley. And while I’m at it toss in the enzymes cause as sure as I’ve depleted my alkaline reserves I’ve used up lots of enzymes as fuel.

“But Vassey”, I argued I eat enough raw and he said, “yes on a day to day basis that’s fine but you’ve got to put back what you tok out.” The man made sense. “And don’t forget the pre and probiotics.”
“Can I go now?” I ask. Man I’m itchin to get my house ceaned.
“Just one few last things,” he answers. “A few tips and pointers.” And he tells me how to make jump start my organs of elimination so that they’re working at 100%. The one I liked the most is drinking a glass of water after each toilet trip. Have been twenty times since I started writing this here. And I need to go again. After that I’m going to treat my self to an alkalizing energy boost - a teaspoon of blackstrap molasses. And perhaps a bath to open the pores and eliminate acids through the skin… Nah maybe not. I want to watch Matrix reloaded and wonder how much time God took when putting Neo together. A very Alkalizing thought.

I extend my deepest thanks to Mr Vasey. Your book has opened a new door for me. Many new doors. May good things always follow you. Thank you.

Although I believe that what I do does not define who I am how I do it does. I like peace, I like joy. You know that feeling which just overcomes you when you're doing nothing particularly spectacular. Just standing crunching into an apple listening to the boys and you realise, man this is who I am. This person who is there in the 'silence'. Wish she'd come out more often. I can't tell you more about her because I'm still getting to know her myself. Trying to encourage her to stay for longer visits, maybe one day stay forever. That aside I am a thirty one year old mother of two boys, five and three who enjoys writing and staying healthy.

The litmus paper strips you buy in the chemist are generally too broad in range. You really need strips in the reange of the body pH range.
Also, Chris Vasey’s food recommendations are out of date. The best food table is ina little book called the Acid Alkaline Food Guide by Dr Susan E Brown from Amazin.

  2. I just got some proper litmus paper. Came today and I haven’t tried it yet. Thanks for the book tip. The only section of Vasey’s book I hopped over was the one with the food charts. I figured I had that covered already. You draw my attention to it today and I am surprised to see lemons and pinapples listed as acidic. I’ll check out the book by Susan Brown. My samll collection of information on the topic sems to grow day by day. Again thanks.

  3. I’ve read The acid-alkalinen diet book and, just like Christy, I was totally blown away by the C.V.’s ideas about health and disease. I’ve been suffering from a itching on my arms for years and I was amazed to discover that the acid-alkaline imbalance in my body might be responsible for this, since no doctor has been able to cure it with traditional drugs or to tell me its origins. Now I’m pretty sure, judging from my diet, that I’ve been barking at the wrong tree and that I must absolutely change my diet. The trouble is it’s not easy to find some of the products he mentions here in Italy. In particular I’m looking for the two no sodium supplements: Somona or Sanarter basic. Can anyone tell me where to get them on the internet? I would appreciate any suggestion. Thanks and a happy new year to everyone. Rita
