Joanne, thanks for pointing me towards this article.  What can I say?  I am happy Sally Fallon has opened the discussion and I am also very happy to contribute to it.   The acid alkaline theory may be somewhat confusing initially.  On the surface it would seem like everybody should be eating 100% alkaline but No.  It's not at all about that.   For example:
The hotter and drier the climate, the more the body produces acid forming reactions. Alkaline forming foods have a cooling effect on the body and digest quickly. Thus persns living in a hot dry desert clime such as the Sahara will require an alkaline forming diet (90%).  The colder and wetter the environment, the more the body produces alkaline forming reactions.  Natural acid-forming meats have a heating effect upon the system digesting slowly. Thus persons living in the harsh, cold wet climate near the north or south poles require 80% acid forming natural flesh food during the long winter.  Alkaline forming foods should be increased to 50% during the slightly warmer polar season. Taken from Alkalize or Die by Theodore Barody.

The objective of this diet is to keep the body functions (some) at mildly alkaline.  Whether it is through eating a high meat diet like the exkimos or a highly alkaline forming diet like that which is eaten in the Caribbean (well used to be eaten).  But the truth is this theory was aimed to help those of us who live in relatively moderate climes.   Who don't need to buffer the extreme alkaline or acidic body reactions brought on my our location.  

 The trick for us is balance finding the right balance which corresponds with our environmental and personal needs.   (Let's tell a body builder to eat only lemons!)   For maintaining good health the ratio is 60% alkaline forming foods to 40% acid forming (The PH Miracle Robert and Shirley Young) and for neutralising stored acids and reclaimng health 80% to 20%.  

Oh well welcome abord Aventures in Alkaline.  It certainly looks like it will be very interesting.
